Jason DePue is a member of the first violin section of the Philadelphia Orchestra. A Curtis Institute of Music graduate, he actively teaches violin privately, ranging from in-person to online virtual lessons. His students enjoy scholarships to top music schools, and many enjoy successful careers as independent performing musicians and teachers in their own right. He’s performed recitals of the Paganini Caprices, the Bach Sonatas, and Partitas (see below on this YouTube page) and various albums such as his recent encore album "Spanish Essentials for Violin and Piano." In leadership roles, Jason was concertmaster of the New York String Seminar under Jamie Laredo, the Symphony Orchestra of the Curtis Institute of Music under Otto-Werner Mueller, the Verbier Festival Orchestra of Switzerland, and the Music Symphony Festival Orchestra in Chautauqua, NY under Timothy Muffit.

Jason continues to engage in musical collaborations ranging from chamber music to innovative projects. He was in attendance at the Isaac Stern Workshop, Jerusalem Music Encounters in Israel, the Steans Institute at Ravinia, the La Jolla, Kingston, Sarasota (Fl.), Encore, Saratoga (NY), and St. Barth's chamber music festivals. He's soloed with the Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia, the Cleveland Philharmonic, Columbus, Toledo, Lima, and Springfield Symphonies. Occasionally, he also concertizes with the DePue Brothers Band, where he plays mandolin and viola. For one of the Philadelphia Orchestra's Opening Night Galas, the DePue Brothers Band were honored to be guests in which four original arrangements of Jason's were premiered.

Born and raised in Bowling Green, Ohio, his principal violin teachers include Boris Brant (Mr. Brant is featured in the book “Teaching Genius: Dorothy DeLay and the Making of a Musician”), Vasile Beluska, David Cerone, and William de Pasquale. Additional former teachers include Aaron Rosand, Joseph Silverstein, Ida Kavafian, Yumi Scott, Yair Kless, and Jamie Laredo.

Jason DePue plays on a beautiful French violin by Charles Francois Gand, France, ca 1825.
